Notlar Copy of an official note from the Persian Minister for Foreign Affairs [ Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Abū al-Ḥasan Khān Shīrāzī] to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir (a translation of the note is now catalogued as IOR/L/PS/9/71/19). The note covers the treaty relations existing between Britain and Persia, including the British commitment to mediating between Russia and Persia in the case of aggression from the former, or else providing the latter with financial assistance. Referring to the ongoing war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828], the Minister for Foreign Affairs remonstrates against the failure of the British Government to facilitate peace or to provide assistance to Persia, and indicates that on account of this it is the intention of the Persian Government to send an envoy to Britain to ascertain the views of the British Government. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 1, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of 25 June 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/17).
