The correspondence is primarily between Charles Belgrave, Adviser to the Government of Bahrain, and officials at the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. in Bahrain. The correspondence concerns arrangements for DeGrenier's leave and contract as well as a visit that he made to Kuwait in 1934 (some correspondence in Arabic is contained in connection to this visit). The file also contains correspondence regarding DeGrenier's fitness to work, his departure from Bahrain in 1943 and the hiring of his replacement, George William Reginald Smith. A copy of the contract agreed between Smith and Shaikh Salmān bin Ḥamad Āl Khalīfah, the Ruler of Bahrain, is contained on folios 62-69.
