Moonshee [ Munshi A term used in the Middle East, Persia and South Asia to refer to a secretary, assistant or amanuensis. Munshis were employed in the British administration in the Gulf. ] detailing the recent history of Guttur [Qatar] from 1218 Hijri ( c. 1803). The history includes details of the principal settlements of Al Bida'a [Doha], Al Wakrah and Al Zabarah, the tribes that occupied them and their trade and livelihood. The memo also documents attacks on the towns by other tribes; Guttur's relationship with Bahrein [Bahrain]; Bahrein's rulership; Khalifeh ben Selman's alliance with Ben Sa'ud and succesful attack on Bahrein c .1842 after which he became Shaikh of Bahrein; taxation on Guttur pearl fisheries; the destruction of Zobarah; Bahrein and Guttur as territories of Ben Sa'ud, the Persians or the Turks; the rise of Bida'a as a merchant town; and Guttur being considered to be under the jurisdiction of Ben Sa'ud owing to its tribute to Bahrein being paid by them to Ben Sa'ud.
