Correspondence is mainly between Hugh Weightman, Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Bahrain; Trenchard Craven Fowle, Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ; and Shaikh Hamad, Ruler of Bahrain. The papers discuss four possible heirs: Abdullah bin Isa; Salman bin Hamad; Abudullah bin Hamad; and Mohammed bin Isa. The correspondence discusses the role Britain should play in the nomination, as well as how Hamad's decision was to be recorded and made public. It also includes six photographs of Shaikh Hamad signing a document nominating Salman as heir.
