Identifiable by his fiery halo, the young Prophet Yusuf (or Joseph, in Christian tradition) stands before the Pharaoh, and predicts that Egypt's harvests will be bad for seven years in a row. Despite the location of the story, this royal garden scene is painted in the distinctive mode of Iran. Folio, ink, colours and gold on paper, Turkish verses in naskh script, with painting (on recto), from Yusuf and Zulaykha, by Hamdullah Chelebi, also known as Hamdi (d. 1509), composed 1491-2 (897H), Ottoman Turkey, undated, c. 1550-1600.
