Abridged Book of Kings (Muntakhab-i Shahnama), by Tawakkul Beg. This is a shorter prose version of Firdausi's epic poem, the Book of Kings (Shahnama). The prose summary also includes verse extracts from the original. The abridgement was written in Kabul in 1643, by a military officer Tawakkul Beg, on the order of the Mughal governor of Kabul. At least twenty years later, this densely-illustrated copy was made in Sikakol, on the Deccan peninsula. Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, 423 folios, Persian text in nasta`liq script, 61 paintings, abridged prose version of Firdausi's Book of Kings (Shahnama), composed by Mughal court official Tawwakul Beg in Kabul, 1643, colophon (spuriously) dated 20 Jumada I 948H, 12 September 1541, Sikakol, Golconda, India, dateable 1660-1680.
