Notlar The lonely poet, from Thirty Letters (Sī-nāma, or Love Letters, `Ishq-nāma) by Amīr Ḥusaynī (d. 1318). This poem is about lovers writing to each other when they are apart, and waiting to read each other’s letters. Here the thoughtful poet sits alone in his bedroom, on a starry night. Two books lie beside him, his reed pen ready in the white inkpot. Folio, ink, colours and gold on paper, re-mounted in gold-painted borders, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with painting (on recto), from Thirty Letters (Sī-nāma, also called Love Letters, `Ishq-nāma) by Amīr Ḥusaynī Fakhr al-Sādāt (d. 1318, Herat), from a collection (majmū`a) of Persian poetry, dedicated to Timurid ruler Abū Sa`īd (r. 1451-69), decorated borders added later by order of Shaybanid ruler `Abd al-Azīz (r. 1540-1549), probably produced in Herat, Afghanistan, c. 1450, with borders added in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, c. 1540-1549.
