Anthology (Dīvān), by Fāryābi (d. 1201). This manuscript was made for the library of Husayn Khan Shamlu, who ruled as the governor of Safavid Herat from 1598 to 1618. His name is written across the tent doorway in one lively scene (fol. 80r) of musicians and revellers enjoying a party in the countryside. Throughout Iran, many centres of power lay in the provinces far beyond the capital, controlled by regional governors appointed by the shah. Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, 91 folios, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with illuminated title page (sarlawh, fol. 1v), colophon (fol. 91r) and headings throughout, 3 paintings (fols. 32v, 67v, 80r), and replaced outer borders (fols. 1-33, 66-91), Anthology (Dīvān), by Ẓahīr al-Dīn Abū al-Faẓl Ṭāhir Fāryābī (1156-1201, Tabriz), produced for the library (kitābkhāna) of Ḥusayn Khān Shāmlū (Safavid governor of Herat, 1598-1618), copied by Shāh Qāsim, Herat, Afghanistan, dated Jumada I 1023H, June 1614.
