This prayer book was originally composed in Morocco, by the Sufi scholar Muḥammad al-Jazūlī (d. 1465). Later copies were produced from North Africa to India, and often contain illustrations linked to the life and memory of the Prophet Muḥammad. In this richly-illuminated manuscript from North Africa (possibly Algeria or Tunisia) dated 1699 (1110H), there are facing-page diagrams of the Ka`ba shrine in Mecca and the Prophet's home and tomb in Medina (fols. 9v-10r), and the sacred outline of his sandal (fols. 10v-11r). Guide to Happiness (Dalā'il al-khayrāt) by Abū `Abdullāh Muḥammad al-Jazūlī (d. 1465),. Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, leather covers, 217 folios (+35 interleaved), Arabic text in black and gold maghribi script, with double page illumination (at front and back), illuminated text panels throughout, and illuminated labelled diagrams of the holy sanctuaries in Mecca and Medina, and the Prophet’s footprint (fols. 9v-11r), Guide to Happiness and the Shinings of Lights, for reciting the prayer to bless the chosen Prophet (Dalā'il al-khayrāt wa shawāriq al-anwār fī dhikr al-ṣalāt ‘ala Nabī al-Mukhtar) by Abū `Abdullāh Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn Abī Bakr al-Jazūlī (d. 1465), book of prayers devoted to the Prophet Muḥammad, unsigned, North Africa, dated Dhu’l-Qa`da 1110H, May 1699.
