Book of Ecstasy (Ḥālnāma), or The Ball and the Polo Mallet (Gūy o Chūgān), by Maḥmūd ibn Muḥammad al-`Ārifī. Codex, ink, colours and gold on gold-sprinkled paper, lacquer painted book covers, 24 folios, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with illuminated heading (sarlawh, fol. 1v), colophon (fol. 24r) and borders throughout, the Book of Ecstasy (Ḥālnāma), or The Ball and the Polo Mallet (Gūy-o-Chūgān), by Maḥmūd ibn Muḥammad al-`Ārifī, first composed 1438 for Timurid prince Mīrzā Sulṭān-Muḥammad ibn Baysunghur, copied by `Alī al-Ḥusaynī al-Kātib (possibly Mīr `Alī al-Haravī), Herat, Afghanistan, dated 934H, 1527-1528.
