Notlar Manuscript codex.Title supplied by cataloger.Condition: This manuscript was bound out of order when it was remargined and some leaves were apparently lost; several leaves do not line up with the catchwords. Several ghazals are partially omitted and several lines are inversed and/or repeated. 15 ghazals have been omitted entirely from this manuscript, and it is missing the ḥamd. (For more details, ask for collection file at the Hanna Holborn Gray Special Collections Research Center.) The margins partially cover some words on most pages; in some instances, entire words are covered by the margins.Collation: Paper, fol. i (later paper) + 80 (text panel written on gold-flecked wove paper, now trimmed to 156 x 72 mm; ruled borders from a different wove paper source 167-156 x 81-72 mm, then re-margined with laid paper 231 x 135 mm; foliated backwards in later pencil 80-1); original collation cannot be determined; catchword on final leaf indicates that this manuscript is incomplete.Layout: Written in 2 columns of 15 lines, with inner column borders double-ruled in ink; borders of text panel ruled in blue, black, gold, and red; outer borders on later paper in blue; catchword in bottom inner margin on verso of each leaf.Script: Written in nastaʻliq script in black ink.Decoration: Rubrics in red.Binding: full red morocco over boards; gold stamped central mandorla and cornerpieces with blind tooled borders; blue paper pastedowns.Origin: Written in Mughal India in approximately the 18th century.
