King Fahd National Laibrary
Getty Images King Fahd National Library (Arabic: مكتبة الملك فهد الوطنية) is the national library of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and one of its most important cultural landmarks. It is located in the capital Riyadh. Officially opened in 1990, the library serves as the country's "legal deposit" center; This means that it is responsible for collecting, preserving and archiving a copy of all printed and digital materials published in Saudi Arabia. The library manages huge collections that include rich Islamic and national heritage, rare manuscripts, historical documents, photographs and coins. It also coordinates the distribution of ISBN/ISSN (International Standard Book/Serial Publication Numbers) in the country and acts as a vital information hub for researchers. The library building is also internationally renowned architecturally, with its modern cube-shaped lattice (filigree) exterior surrounding the old building, designed by the German architectural firm Gerber Architekten.
