Fihris al-kutub al-mawjūdah bi-al-Maktabah al-Azharīyah, III, 82 and Garrett 1651 (Brockelmann, GAL, II, 589, 4: no. 2) ascribe this work to Akhīzādah Yūsuf ibn Junayd, d. 902/1496-7 (not ʻAbd al-ḥakīm, as in the Garrett catalogue and in Brockelmann, GAL!), cf. also Tahir, Osmanlı müʻellifleri (1914-24), II, 53 and Baghdādī, Hadīyat al-ʻārifīn (1951-55), II, 563. According to Baghdādī, Īḍāḥ al-maknūn, II, 728 the author is Muḥammad Kashfī al-Rūmī, who wrote this treatise for the vizier ʻAlī Pasha in 1175/1761-2, but this is evidently incorrect, for the anon. ms. As. Soc. Bengal no. 791 is dated Jumādá I, 1087, ms. Gazi Husrev-Begova Biblioteka u Sarajevu, 733 (attributed in the catalogue to Kashfī) was copied in 1138 H., and the present ms. in 1129H.Incip.: ... الحمد لله الذى جعل العلوم الشرعىة مىراثا للعلماء
