Title also appears on lower edge of text block.Collation: Paper ; fol. (4) + 140 + (8) ; catchwords ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals.Layout: 24-32 lines per page ; partially frame-ruled in red (fol. 81-140).Description: Rubricated ; vowel signs ; watermarks (shield with a face-in-the-moon and the letter "A", roman-alphabet letters "FAG"; three crescents, cursive roman-alphabet letters "B" and "G") ; MS in good condition.Origin: According to colophon copy completed Saturday 16 Ṣafar 1243, apparently by the author (fol. 140b).Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم وبه نستعين الحمد لله الذي جعل المجددين مصابيحا لمعالم الدين ... اما بعد فان العلمآ لما قاموا بعلآ كلمة الحق و حمد العآمة عليها ...Colophon: وکان الفراغ من تحصيله بعناية المخدوم به وهو شيخ الاسلام حفظه الله تعالى وبارك في ايامه اوان الظهر من يوم السبت لعله سادس عشر من شهر صفر الطفر [الظفر] من شهور سنة 1243. ختمها الله تعالى وما بعدها بخير ووقانا والمؤمنين في الدارين کل ضرّ وضير امين اللهم امين سبحان ربك رب العزة عما يصفون وسلام على المرسلين والحمد لله رب العالمين - Later? type II (with flap) binding in dark brown leather. Color-stamped mandorla and cornerpieces and gold-tooled edging on covers. Similar decoration on flap. Binding in poor condition. - A biography of Abū ʻAlī Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Shawkānī. The work comprises three divisions: (1) the birth of al-Shawkānī, his characteristics and virtues, (2) his education and the shaykhs under whom he studied, (3) his students and their works.
