Notlar Ms. codex.Title from fol. 1a.Copied by Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Mālikī and completed on 27 of Dhū al-Qaʻdah 898 (1493) -- colophon (fol. 227a).16 lines per page. Written in a small naskh in black ink with use of red for rubrication. Catchwords on the verso of each leaf. Thick glazed paper with no chain or laid lines and with prominent pulp. Some water damage to the paper and duplication of ink, especially at the start and towards the end of the ms. Several ownership statements on fol. 1a, none dated. Few short inscriptions on fol. 227a-b, one of which is a 'reading statement' in the name of Sayyid Bakrî, known as Ibn al-Zind, dated middle of Jumādá al-Awwal 1173 (1760).Illuminations: Fol. 1a has an illuminated panel design (titlepage), consisting of a rectangle outlined in gold leaf and blue watercolor; inside of it is a head piece with the title executed in gold leaf and blue, white and orange watercolors, and below is a medallion with scalloped edges and border design in blue, with the authors name, also executed in gold leaf with blue, white and orange watercolors; the medallion is surrounded by four flower corner pieces in gold leaf with blue and orange watercolors; a small circular medallion in gold leaf, blue and orange watercolors and blue border outside the rectangle, on the left margin next to the head piece.Incipit: الحمد لله الذي سوغنا الفضل جزيلاً ... اما بعد فان الله تعالى بللطيف حكمته وما اودعه فى ابداع العالم من عجائب قدرته خلق الانسان مجبولاً على الافتقارExplicit: وقال تستعين به على صيانة جمالها ورونق ادبها وهنا انتهى الكتاب والحمد لله ... وسقطه وفضول القول وهذره - Brown leather over pasteboard. The binding is damaged substantially, the upper cover is loose and the covers are not the same - one of them is a later replacement, most likely the lower one. Upper cover has a blind tooled panel design, consisting of a border in a blind roll and several fillets, with corner pieces made with several fillets and very small circular stamps, and a central round medallion tooled in an 'arabesque' pattern. Lower cover is in a lighter brown leather and has a different panel design, consisting of blind and gold fillets and gold roll around the borders, with corner pieces made with blind fillets and filled with a gold mesh pattern, and a central mandorla filled with a blind tooled flower pattern and scalloped edges with radiating sprigs and pendants in gold. Upper cover has a pastedown in cream paper; lower cover has a doublure of brown leather, marbled in a foliage pattern. - A treatise on marriage and sexual relations.
