A few leaves mended; stained with dampness. Between fol. 123 and 124 are five pieces of paper with short texts (a few others are found throughout the copy).Decoration: Naively executed headpiece on fol. 3b.Origin: According to colophon, copied by ʻAlī ibn al-Mullā ʻIbādī ibn al-Mullā Aḥmad ibn al-Mullā Ṣāliḥ ibn al-Mullā Muḥammad al-Zaylī ... al-Hayābī ... al-Shafiʻī, and completed on Sunday 12 Shaʻbān 1133 [June 8, 1721] (fol. 276b).Incipit: الحمد لله الذي نزّل الفرقان على عبده ليكون للعالمين نذيرا ... اما بعد فان اعظم العلوم مقدارا وارفعها شرفا ومنارا علم التفسير الذي هو رئيس العلوم الدينية ورأسها ومبنى قواعد الشرع واساسهاExplicit: من الجنة والناس بيان للسواس او للذي او متعلق يتوسوس اي يوسوس فى صدورهم ... فكانما قرا الكتب التى انزلها الله تعالى والله سبحانه وتعالي اعلم بالصواب واليه المرجع والماب وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد وعلى اله وصحبه وسلم سيد الاحباب ورسول رب الارباب سيدنا محمد الذي اوتى الحكمة وفضل الخطاب وعلى اله صلاة وسلاما دايمين متلازمين الي اخر الاحقاب امين امين امين امين - Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers. Both covers have a blind stamped central mandorla with two pendants on the vertical axis, and an outer border consisting of fillets. Decorated grey and blue paper pastedowns. - Neat copy of part of Bayḍāwī's commentary on the Qurʼān, comprising the text until the end of Sūrat al-Anʻām (6). The text is preceded on fol. 2b-3a by a short text, apparently a commentary, partly wanting due to the damage on paper. Note on a lacuna at the beginning of this copy on fol. 15a, upper margin.
