Notlar Ms. codex.Title supplied by cataloger.Physical description: 9 lines per page; written in calligraphic naskh in black and gold on cream glazed, laid Arabic paper. Catchwords; vocalized. Text frames completely or partially detached; numerous paper repairs. Some damp staining and mild insect damage. In delicate condition due to detached frames.Decoration: Well-executed illuminations. Illuminated ʻunwān in gold and color at the beginning of each sūrah, with the largest being the first headpiece on fol. 1b. Text layout: one line in large gold script, three lines in small black script flanked on either side by illuminations; pattern is repeated then ends with a line in large gold script. Text framed in blue and gold; text area written in black is gold-sprinkled. Medallions in margins indicate every fifth and tenth āyahs. Gold disks outlined in blue mark end of each āyah.Origin: Last third of Ṣafar 976 H [August 1568], Herat, by Aḥmad ibn Niʻmat Allāh [fol. 21a]. - Loose in folder consisting of full black leather covers with gold-stamped central mandorla, pendants and cornerpieces; maroon leather doublures with cutout central mandorla, pendants and cornerpieces decorated with gold or black filligree; insect damage.
