Fol. 1 consists of two fol. pasted together, a later free end paper with inscription being pasted on the first original fol. Ḥāshīyah by several hands on the margins. Inscription and short texts in Ottoman Turkish on fol. (i)b and 1a. Label with inscription in Arabic script on the upper cover. Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "243 ḥāʼ".Copied in several places, and completed in 8-8 H. [Mach reads 838] in the Madrasat al-Sulṭān al-Aʻẓam wa-al-Khāqān al-Muʻaẓẓam Malik Mulūk al-ʻArab wa-al-ʻAjam al-Sulṭān al-Salāṭīn al-Sulṭān Ulugh Bīk in Samarqand, by Aḥmad ibn [--?] Maḥmūd [---?] (colophon with verses of poetry in Persian, fol. 260a). The name Aḥmad al-Sijistānī is also mentioned in the colophon.Incipit: خير خبر توشح به صدر الكلام واحسن حديث ... وبعد فقد بعثنى فرط الشعف بتنبع الخواص - Dark brown leather (peeling) on paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers. Both covers have a blind stamped central mandorla outlined in gold, with an outer border made of blind tooled and gold painted fillets and running patterns. Traces of a fore-edge flap. Paper pastedowns. - Commentary on the third part of Miftāḥ al-ʻulūm (al-Maʻānī wa-al-bayān), a work on rhetoric by Yūsuf ibn Abī Bakr al-Sakkākī.
