Written in small taʻlīq in black ink with use of red. Cream paper, glossy, with laid and chain lines and pulp visible. Important marginalia. Several inscriptions on fol. 1a, including verses in Arabic and Ottoman Turkish, and ownership statements.Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "al-Naḥw 62". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "1158/2 Ḥāʼ".Collation: Paper, fol. 110 ; i (later added fly-leaf ; European paper ; fol. 1 in modern foliation) 1¹⁰ (-1, at the beginning of quire) 2-10¹⁰ 11¹⁰ (-1 at end of quire) i (later added fly-leaf ; European paper).Origin: Copy (or composition?) completed in the middle of Rabīʻ al-Awwal 848 [July 1444]. Copied by Ibrāhīm ibn ... ibn ʻAlī (colophon, fol. 109a, with three lines of poetry in Arabic).Incipit: الحمد لله الذى انزل من السماء الفرقان وخلق من التراب الانسان ... اما بعد فهذه حواش كتبتها للمصباح وسميتها بالافتتاح بالتسام بعض الاصحاب ... بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم اما بعد حمد الله ذى الانعام اما كلمة فيها معنى الشرط فلذلك لزمت الفاءExplicit: فى هذه الصور احسن وان كان النصب كثير الاستعمال بعدم الحاجة مع الرفع الى الاضمار الذى يحتاج الى تفسير قد تم شرح المصباح - Red brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers, fore-edge flap and envelope flap. Both covers are similarly blind tooled, with a central mandorla and an outer border of fillets. Similar border on the envelope flap, with smaller stamp on its pointe. Paper pastedowns. Fore-edge flap disbound. - Commentary on Miṣbāḥ fī al-naḥw, a treatise on grammar by al-Muṭarrizī (d. 610/1213). The text is preceded on fol. 2a-4a by several short excerpts from al-Iẓhār [sharḥ al-Miṣbāḥ] (GAL, SI, 514/14) and other texts. It is followed on fol. 109b by verses of poetry in Arabic.
