Notlar Ms. codex.Title from fol. 1a.Copied by Muḥammad ibn Muṣṭafá, in Üsküdar, and completed on the 24th of Muḥarram 1071 (1660) -- colophon (fol. 313a).21 lines per page. Written in small naskh in black ink with use of red for rubrication. On ff. 7b-9a text is within a frame outlined in gold ink. Fol. 7b has a simple head piece made with one scalloped line of gold ink, with radiating sprigs around the outer edges. Foliation in Arabic numerals in red ink and in Western numerals in pencil. Glazed European paper. Some marginal annotations throughout. Fol. 1b has a list of references to the Qurʼān. Ff. 2a-3b have a table of contents in black and red ink. Ff. 6b-7a contain two family trees of the Maḥbūbīs, and a short paragraph explaining their geneaology and their respective writings related to the original work of Marghīnānī. There are several short inscriptions on ff. 1a, 2a, 4a, and 5a, including a few lines of verse on fol. 5a.Incipit: يقول العبد المتوسل الى الله تعالى باقوى الذريعة عبيد الله بن مسعود بن تاج الشريعة ... هذا حل المواضع المغلقة من وقاية الرواية من مسائل الهدايةExplicit: ومع ذلك يباح التناول اعتمادا على الغالب - Dark burgundy leather with envelope flap. Central mandorlas on upper and lower covers and on the envelope flap, blind stamped with borders outlined in gold ink. Blind fillets, filled with gold ink, on the borders of upper and lower covers and of the envelope flap. Spine and fore edge flap repaired in brown leather. Pastedowns and lining to the envelope flap in marbled paper. Lining to the fore edge flap in brown buckram. - A commentary on Wiqāyat al-riwāyah fī masāʼil al-Hidāyah, a work on fiqh by the author's grandfather, Maḥmūd ibn Ṣadr al-Sharīʻah al-Maḥbūbī (d. 1274 or 5). As for the work itself, Wiqāyat al-riwāyah is an epitome of the work called al-Hidāyah by ʻAlī ibn Abī Bakr al-Marghīnānī (d. 1196 or 7).
