Foliation in Arabic numerals in black ink and foliation in Western numerals in pencil. Glazed paper with visible laid lines. Ff. 10b-11a have a table of contents in black and red ink. Fol. 2a has another table of contents, and there are various short texts and inscriptions from fol. 3a to 10a and on fol. 178a-b, all in later hands, chiefly in Arabic with one (a duʻāʼ) in Ottoman. Extensive marginal annotations throughout.Incipit: يقول العبد المتوسل الى الله تعالى باقوى الذريعة عبيد الله بن مسعود بن تاج الشريعة ... هذا حل المواضع المغلقة من وقاية الرواية فى مسائل الهدايةExplicit: ومع ذلك يباح التناول اعتمادا على الغالب والله اعلم بالصواب واليه المرجع والمأب - Brown leather with envelope flap with blind stamped central mandorlas on upper and lower covers and the flap. Blind fillets around the borders of covers and of the envelope flap. Spine and cover edges partially repaired with different brown leather. Lining to the envelope flap and pastedowns in cream paper. Lining to the fore edge flap in brown leather. - A commentary on Wiqāyat al-riwāyah fī masāʼil al-Hidāyah, a work on fiqh by the author's grandfather, Maḥmūd ibn Ṣadr al-Sharīʻah al-Maḥbūbī (d. 1274 or 5). As for the work itself, Wiqāyat al-riwāyah is an epitome of the work called al-Hidāyah by ʻAlī ibn Abī Bakr al-Marghīnānī (d. 1196 or 7).
