Notlar Ms. codex.Title from fol. 1a.Copy is dated J. 1002 (1594) -- colophon (fol. 353a).19 lines per page. Written in small nastaʻlīq in black ink with use of red for rubrication. The text is within a gold leaf frame outlined in black ink. Fol. 5b has an illuminated head piece executed in gold leaf and dark blue watercolor. Foliation in Arabic numerals in red and black ink. Dark cream glazed paper with no chain or laid lines visible and with prominent fibres, except for a few sheets in the second half on the ms., which are a later replacement on a lighter glazed paper with visible laid lines. Extensive marginal annotation throughout, most heavily at the start, including several inserted slips, includes excerpts attributed to, among others, ʻImād Kāshī, Ibn Kamāl, Kamāl al-Dīn etc. Several short inscriptions on fol. 1b, and one on fol. 4a. Fol. 3a has the last page of a table of contents in black and red ink (the rest of the pages missing). Fol. 4b has Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, and fol. 5a has an extended title like paragraph explaining the relationship between the author Maḥbūbī and his grandfathers, and is signed Niẓām al-Dīn. Same fol. (fol. 5a) has an obliterated ownership signature and a seal, both almost completely illegible.Incipit: فيقول العبد المتوسل الى الله باقوى الذريعة عبيد الله بن مسعود بن تاج الشريعة ... هذا حل المواضع المغلقة من وقاية الرواية فى مسائل الهدايةExplicit: ومع ذلك يباح التناول اعتمادا على الغالب - Purple buckram with envelope flap. Obloid gold stamps in the centre of upper and lower covers. Blind fillets around edges of upper and lower covers. Pastedowns and linings to flaps in brown paper (evidence of earlier leather doublures). Label on upper cover: "Thānī 241". - A commentary on Wiqāyat al-riwāyah fī masāʼil al-Hidāyah, a work on fiqh by the author's grandfather, Maḥmūd ibn Ṣadr al-Sharīʻah al-Maḥbūbī (d. 1274 or 5). As for the work itself, Wiqāyat al-riwāyah is an epitome of the work called al-Hidāyah by ʻAlī ibn Abī Bakr al-Marghīnānī (d. 1196 or 7). The text ends on fol. 353a, and is followed by Ṭabaqāt al-mujtahidīn, a short risālah by Ibn Kamāl (1468 or 9-1534) on the subject of interpretation of usūl al-fiqh.
