Folios [i] verso through [v] verso ruled in red as a grid (136-145 x 77-91 mm.) primarily of 6 x 4 squares ([i] verso: 7 x 4; [ii] recto: 7 x 5); folios 1-177 have text area frame-ruled in red; text ruled in blind; outer bounding line ruled in blind on many leaves., Script: Written in nastaʻliq in black ink; pointed., Decoration: A few section ends have additional diagonal red rules within frame., Binding: Full brown leather with fore-edge flap and envelope flap; boards blind-stamped with central mandorla and cornerpieces; flap also blind-stamped; fore-edge flap lined with blind-tooled leather; envelope flap lined with yellow paper; yellow paper pastedowns., Condition: Copy has occasional dampstaining of leaves throughout with minor damage to text; dampstaining of lower portion of some leaves with damage to text and marginalia (f. 8-11, 148-162); dampstaining of upper portion of a few leaves with some damage to text (f. 72-76). Rust-staining at head margin (f. [i-ii]). A few leaves ink-smeared (f. 89v-90r). A few leaves stained with some loss of text (f. 113-114)., Origin: Completed in the month of Shawwal in the year 1147 by Muṣṭafá ibn Sulaymān al-Qayṣarī al-Jarīm (f. 177r)., Partially effaced marginal inscription and owner's stamp on f. 1r. | Arabic. | Formerly owned by the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning (bookplate inside front cover).
Örnek Metin Devotional treatise on the Muslim way of life and conduct. The author mentions various religious prescriptions and orthodox ordinances, vices connected with each body part, warns against feigned piety, hypocrisy and free-thinking. Three parts (bāb) subdivided into faṣl and further divided into qism, ṣanf, nawʻ. Authorities are quoted through initials and the abbreviations are explained in a table following the fihrist and preceding the opening of the book. There are marginal notes and comments.
